At The Good Cook Shop we get to see a lot of tools and gadgets for the kitchen. For a gadget to work it must be practical, effective, easy to use and easy to clean, and every now and then we come across one which really stands out against all these measures.

The Garlic Zoom is just one of those gadgets, it consists of a clear plastic body, two rubberised wheels and a set of four double sided stainless steel blades.

To use the Garlic Zoom, simply open the lid, pop in one or two cloves of garlic, close the lid again and run backwards and forwards on a flat surface. As the wheels rotate they spin the blades via a gearing mechanism. The blades spin more than twice as fast as the wheels, and in no time your garlic has been perfectly chopped. The longer you keep going, the finer the garlic ends up.

Once you have chopped the garlic to your satisfaction, the Garlic Zoom can be opened with the central hinge, the blades safely lifted out the way, and the garlic tapped or scooped out. Pop the blades back in and you are ready to go again. The Garlic Zoom will work with just one clove, and because it is so efficient it is also idea for doing big batches.

Don\'t forget the Garlic Zoom is also amazingly effective with ginger. Use in exactly the same way as you would for garlic but with peeled pieces of ginger about the same size as a clove of garlic.

Cleaning is easy as the whole thing will go on the top rack of the dishwasher.
