The patented Nespresso system came into existence in 1986 with the aim of mastering the  preparation of the perfect espresso coffee.
Working closely with scientists and technologists and backed by constantly growing coffee expertise, Nespresso invented the new concept of ready to use coffee capsules.

The Nespresso system is a complete system, featuring individual capsules filled with the finest of coffees, and a range of high quality, high tech machines to turn each capsule in to the perfect espresso.
Each year, coffees of the highest quality are expertly chosen from the best producer countries around the world, including Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Togo, Kenya and Ethiopia. Once chosen, the coffees are blended according to a special Nespresso formula. The roasting process is a vitally important stage, requiring skill to bring out all the subtle flavours and aromas which are essential for the Nespresso premium coffee taste. Once roasted, the coffee beans are sent through a tightly controlled grinding process. It is essential that the grinding is accurate as it will affect the extraction speed of the coffee and the various sensory tasting criteria. Immediately after grinding, the coffee is sealed within the exclusive Nespresso capsule. The aluminium capsule contains exactly the right amount of coffee for a cup and is hermetically sealed, ensuring that the freshly ground flavour and aroma remains unchanged for up to nine months, until the moment the coffee is made. The mark of a good espresso is always the quality of the crema. With Nespresso, the crema is superb every time, a thick, creamy layer on top of the coffee, making it smooth to drink and sealing in the subtle flavours of the coffee underneath.

There are sixteen premium varieties of Nespresso coffee, with a flavour and strength to suit all pallets ranging from the strong, full bodied Ristretto to the mild, smooth Cosi, there is even a choice of decaffeinated coffees, the ultimate for anyone who enjoys the flavour of superb coffee without the caffeine. In addition to the premium blends, every year a small number of special limited edition coffees are also offered, a real treat to the connoisseur. Each capsule is colour coded so as long as you remember which colour you liked last time you'll be fine!

 The sixteen premium Nespresso blends are divided into some blends which are best served short (espresso) and others designed to be poured long (lungo) to complement their mild, yet intense flavour. The premium blends also make the perfect base for a range of coffee recipes, cappuccino, latte and more.
